For some reason, Xbox 360 games have mysteriously disappeared at the Xbox Live Marketplace, forcing the hand of Microsoft to issue a service alert. The development has caused Microsoft by surprise, especially considering that there were no scheduled maintenance or removals as of now.
Among the games missing were the free games with Gold title and Witcher 2. The company has since issued a service alert stating that their engineers are currently "working non-stop" to get to the bottom of the problem and resolve the problem at the earliest possible time.
Microsoft's advisory also included the following:
"We understand that some of you are having trouble completing in-game purchases, or accessing certain offers in the Xbox Store. We want to assure you that our team is working non-stop to get this situation resolved as quickly as possible. We appreciate your patience during this process, Xbox members! We'll provide an update as soon as we have more information."
There is no word yet on whether this could be another possible attack or hack but just the same, Microsoft assures their customers that they are addressing the issue at the moment.
This comes days after Microsoft had offered The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings free for download to users. The deal was set to go live on January 16 but went on earlier as expected. The game was normally offered at $30 but was supposed to be offered for free until the end of the month.
The free offering replaced a previous game on the block, MX vs. ATV Alive.
With the flaw, there is no official word if Microsoft would be extending the free availability of The Witcher 2. Apparently all that would come after they have resolved the mysterious disappearance issue.
