A woman who lost her home to the devastating tornado that ripped through Moore, Oklahoma yesterday was thrilled to find that her lost dog was alive during a TV interview.
Barbara Garcia was speaking outside of her destroyed home to a reporter from CBS News affiliate KWTV about the devastation in her town when her lost dog appeared.
Garcia looked over at her wrecked home during the camera interview and was telling the reporter that she believes her dog had been killed. Suddenly, her lost pet emerged from the rubble that was once her home.
She told the reporter "I was sitting on my stool holding my dog. This was the game plan all through the years to go in that little bathroom. I never lost consciousness and I hollered for my little dog and he didn't answer or didn't come."
But just as Garcia was telling KWTV about the fate of her dog, a member of the crew saw a dog, which made her turn around and see the head of her pet trying to free itself from the rubble.
The TV crew and Garcia helped the dog out. The dark grey miniature schnauzer was not injured.
Garcia, overcome with joy and emotion, exclaimed that God answered her prayers. "Help me! Oh bless your little bitty heart. Well I thought God just answered one prayer to let me be OK but he answered both of them because that was my second prayer."
Over 50 pets have reportedly been pulled from the rubble in the aftermath of the tornado, which killed 24 people, including 9 children.
The two-mile wide tornado ripped through the small town with wind speeds of up to 200 mph.
Plaza Towers Elementary School in Moore was left flattened, sparking a frantic search for survivors. Staff and students at the school were described to have nowhere to hide from the tornado as it closed in on their school, burying many victims under rubble as the school buildings collapsed. Parents of students at the school are waiting to see if their children are alive, hoping for the best, as the town tries to recover from the devastation caused by the monster tornado.
