"Duck Dynasty" star Willie Robertson joined the growing number of actors, athletes, and others around the world taking part in the "ice bucket challenge."

The "challenge" involves dumping a bucket full of ice and water over one's head, and then nominating someone else to take the challenge.

Celebrities such as Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift, and Jimmy Fallon have all completed the challenge, on video, and shared it with their fans.

The ice bucket challenge is intended to raise awareness for Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also referred to as motor neurone disease. According to the ALS Association, the degenerative disease affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord, and can lead to paralysis in its later stages.

Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal nominated Robertson to complete the challenge, which the reality star accepted.

A YouTube video shows Robertson standing in front of the "Duck Commander" and "Buck Commander" warehouse in West Monroe, wearing an American flag bandana, flannel shirt, and camouflage cargo shorts.

"This is the ice bucket, ice water challenge for ALS," Robertson said to the camera. "I'm going to donate, obviously to ALS, also to Steve Gleason of the New Orleans Saints... to his foundation as well."

He also said a prayer before completing the challenge.

"Father, we're so thankful to You," he began. "Father, we just pray that You give us wisdom, and Father, help us to conquer this disease. Be with us, Father. Be with the families that are suffering with this. Father, we love You, and we just pray with all of our hearts that You just help us find a cure. We love You. In Christ, Amen."

After a countdown, a trash can full of water was dumped on Robertson by two men standing on top of the warehouse's roof.

"That hit me like a truck!" Robertson exclaimed, still recovering from the icy shock.

The sixth season of "Duck Dynasty" ended last week, and the premiere date for the seventh season has not yet been announced.
