What is Barack Obama doing now? After writing his memoir, former president to visit Angela Merkel in Berlin

After stepping out of the Oval Office in January this year, former US President Barack Obama is reportedly chilling out on a private island in French Polynesia to write his memoir.

According to a reports, Obama spent the previous month writing on a private atoll called the Tetiaroa that was used to be owned by the late actor Marlon Brando. The island has been turned into a posh, eco-friendly resort that is aptly known as the Brando.

He arrived in the resort on March 15 to work on his much-anticipated memoir, while his wife and former First Lady Michelle Obama followed him just this weekend to spend precious time together.

According to local news channel TNTV, the Obamas took a boat to the island known as Mo'orea to spend the entire day swimming and engaging in other water activities. The former first lady was photographed while paddleboarding, while her husband was swimming in a nearby secluded lagoon.

This is not the first time that the former US head of state and his family were seen in an exotic location after he passed on his responsibility to the new President Donald Trump. After leaving the White House, the couple traveled to Palm Springs, California with their daughters Malia and Sasha. Then, the couple spent time together in Richard Branson's private Necker Island that can be found in the British Virgin Islands where the ex-president joined a kite-surfing contest.

Meanwhile, other sources reveal that Obama will be travelling to Germany next month to meet with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, while his successor Donald Trump embark on his very first official foreign trip.

Obama will make his first public appearance in Berlin after leaving the office to help celebrate the 500th founding anniversary of the Protestant church. However, reports mention that the timing of Obama's trip is not meant to coincide with Trump's own schedule.
