"Vikings" season 4 will premiere in February 18, 2016.

History Channel seems to have struck gold with "Vikings" as the historical drama is on its way to season 4, which is also its longest to date. Besides that, the company has also announced when the upcoming season will return.

Fans of the historical drama "Vikings" can now mark their 2016 calendars for Feb. 18, which is the premiere date of the show's season 4. But the good news does not end there as the new season will have twice the number of episodes this time around.

The first season of "Vikings" only had 9 episodes and the second and third had 10 each. The upcoming season, TVLine reports, will have 20.

However, this does not mean that a new episode will be aired for 20 straight weeks. Much like many TV shows that premiere during the fall, the historical drama will also be split into half. The first 10 episodes will air during the first part of 2016. It will then go on a break and return with the rest of the ordered episodes later in the year.

Though it's a split season, the fact that there are four more hours added to the total season tally is still great for the viewers.

"Vikings" may not be as historically accurate as critics may want it to be, as it was criticised by The American Spectator in 2013 for getting the Viking Age government inaccurately, it is still a huge hit with the fans. There might have been a slight dip in ratings during the junior season but CinemaBlend notes that ratings were still at a high with at least two million viewers weekly.

And fans do have a lot to look forward to in the fourth season. Three new characters have been brought onboard to make things a little more interesting for the legendary future King of Denmark. Diane Doan was cast as Yidu and she might provide a brand new romantic interest for Ragnar Lothbrok (Travis Fimmel).

A possible new rival is Peter Franzén, who is set to play King Harold Finehair. The last new character is Jasper Pääkkönen's Halfdan the Black.

See all these new characters as they interact with Ragnar in the new 20-episode "Vikings" season 4, which premieres on Feb. 18, 2016 on the History Channel.
