Tweeting the truth in love

 PA

Love it, loathe it or use it, social media is here to stay. If the hundreds of millions of people who use Facebook, Twitter and Instagram every day were a nation, it would be the largest one on the plant. And a seminar taking place in Cardiff will help Christians understand the significance of social media within culture and its power for Christian mission.

On Wednesday 20 November at the city's Rhiwbina Baptist Church, CICC (Cymru Institute for Contemporary Christianity) will host Tweeting the Truth in Love. This three hour session will give delegates an overview of the three main social media platforms - Facebook, Twitter and Instagram and their huge influence within modern culture.

The seminar will be led by Hugh Griffiths who has extensive experience in both church leadership and professional communication. He is currently the deputy executive director of the Bible College of Wales in Swansea and also completing doctoral studies in digital media and society with Cardiff University's school of Journalism, Media and Cultural Studies.

Hugh Griffiths said: "This seminar will lift the bonnet on the world of social media and hopefully demystify it. The opportunities it all presents for mission and building new communities is virtually infinite and I hope it will encourage people to see social media as an opportunity and not a threat."

For more than a decade he has been part of the senior leadership team in two growing and thriving congregations and has taught in churches and bible colleges in several parts of the UK, Europe and Asia. Outside the church he has worked in a number of senior and executive roles in central government, most recently as a specialist in public sector corporate and brand communications.

Tweeting the Truth in Love takes place at 10am, Rhiwbina Baptist Church, Cardiff CF14 For further information on this event please visit http://cicconline.org.uk/event/tweeting-the-truth-in-love
