'True Detective' season 3 premiere: New ad suggests series will continue

 HBO

A report from The Hollywood Reporter stated that "True Detective" season 3 is unlikely to happen now that HBO has shifted some roles and Casey Bloys has been promoted to programming chief. Now, a report from Fansided reveals that the show might still push forward due to clues from a new "True Detective" advertisement.

The ad was shown through several movies and HBO series and while the ad listed "streaming all episodes" of shows like "Silicon Valley," shows like "True Detective" and "Boardwalk Empire" as "complete." However, the report points out that this is not a sign of cancellation but that there is still hope of a third season pushing forward.

According to the report, the ad only showed scenes from "True Detective" season 2 but nothing from season 1, indicating that the "complete" nomenclature referred solely to the second season. It is also important to note that unlike other shows, "True Detective" is an anthology series and each season is not directly related to each other.

With each season being labeled as a stand-alone, complete series, this may indicate that HBO is still pushing forward for season 3. However, it may be a year or more before season 3 premieres given that HBO is speculated to allow Nic Pizzolatto to focus on something else such as an unrelated series, allowing him to put his best foot forward when writing "True Detective" season 3.

"True Detective" started with a critically praised season 1 but this was followed by a mediocre season 2. This drop in quality and viewership has caused many to speculate if HBO was cancelling the show but this new ad may indicate that the show still has a future and possibility of renewal.

However, given that HBO has not yet given any official word it is possible that the series is complete and done. It will remain this way until the studios officially announce a renewal for a third season.

If you look at the Church of England’s communications all that it ever seems to highlight is the good works that Christians do to improve the temporal well-being of their neighbours. It is right to highlight these things, but they are not the primary reason for the Church’s existence.
