Michael Bay is set to take the helm of the fifth installment of the hit action film series "Transformers," according to The Inquisitr.
The director will reportedly be reunited with Mark Walberg, who will be reprising his role as Cade Yeager. It was actually the actor who hinted at Bay's return, amidst various speculations that the person who "bungled" the "Revenge of the Fallen" will direct another "Transformers" movie.
"Akiva Goldsman and those guys are starting to write and break stories, and stuff like that. But Bay is in Malta shooting Benghazi, and I'm in New Orleans shooting Deepwater. We'll get together when he gets back," the actor said.
According to the website, the film will be split into two parts. With help from Ultra Magnus, Optimus will be facing the Quintessons and this may lead to a possible confrontation with Unicron, the Decepticons' father. The storyline will be set both on Earth and in space.
Meanwhile, Enstarz reveals that the rumored beast wars in "Transformers 5" may be true. According to earlier reports, the machines could transform into "wild animalistic forms," just like in the Generation 1 (G1) toy line series.
In an interview with Deadline, Akiva Goldsman talked about the possibility of incorporating the said theme into the new movie.
"If one of the writers discovers an affinity for 'Beast Wars,' they can drive forward on treatments that will have been fleshed out by the whole room. We will look at the toys, the TV shows, the merchandise, everything... After that super saturation, the writers will figure out not one, but numerous films that will extend the universe," he said.
As for casting rumors, Crossmap reports that Bruce Willis and Dwayne Johnson might join the crew, while a "G.I. Joe" crossover is also possible.
"Transformers 5" is slated to be released in July 2017.
