Car enthusiasts are looking forward to the premiere of the car-themed show, "Top Gear," featuring hosts Richard Hammond, Jeremy Clarkson, and James May. The show will be exclusively streaming at Amazon Prime.
An exact release date for "Top Gear" for Amazon has not been announced yet, but fans should expect the series to air later this year, most probably in fall.
According to Digital Spy, all three hosts have signed a contract to do up to three series of the show consisting 12 episodes each that lasts about 60 minutes. There will be a weekly release of the episodes instead of dropping all 12 at one time. Rumor has it that Amazon spent about $250 million for all 36 episodes.
The show is currently filming and Hammond was even spotted in London doing the shoot last week. Although the show hosts are former "Top Gear" personalities, the new Amazon Prime show won't carry the same name because the franchise belongs to BBC.
The show is expected to have a fresh twist to it. Show producer Andy Wilman told The Hollywood Reporter last year that "there will be a new look, new elements, new home" in the yet-to-be-titled Amazon Prime series.
Meanwhile, the show is also said to feature "international escapades" and may even hinted that they will be going to exotic locations. In relation to this, the show is said to avoid sticking to a studio. Instead, it will be broadcast from different parts of the world, Mirror reported.
As to why the show will be streamed in a Netflix-like service, Wilman explained to RadioTimes, "There are three reasons really. They'll give us the freedom to make the programmes we want — and you know how we love that freedom — here's a budget to produce programmes of the quality we want and this is the future. So it's exhilarating to be part of that future."
