Disney is one of the last places on Earth one would think of associating with abortion, but controversial health service provider Planned Parenthood recently tweeted a post calling for a new Disney princess to be one who has had an abortion.
"We need a Disney princess who's had an abortion / We need a Disney princess who's pro-choice / We need a Disney princess who's an undocumented immigrant / We need a Disney princess who's actually a union worker / We need a Disney princess who's trans," the controiversial tweet read.
The backlash was immediate, and Planned Parenthood has already deleted the tweet, but that has not stopped netizens voicing out their anger over the topic.
"So glad #PlannedParenthood deleted their disgusting tweet, I don't really think having a Disney princess getting an abortion is appropriate for young girls... what about the 3 million 'princesses' they've killed over the past few years?" a woman wrote.
Now, Deanna Falchook, a real live Disney princess, who did have an abortion several years back, has decided to share her side of the matter. She started working for Disney World as a singer and dancer back in 1981, according to Charisma News.
Disney used her voice for Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty recordings, and she would perform five shows a day in front of Cinderella's castle. She became pregnant at the age of 18, but because of her job, she decided to have an abortion.
"There was no pressure from the company or management to abort my baby. I didn't tell them. But I made a decision on my own that I quickly lived to regret," she said.
Days after her abortion, Falchook said she "struggled deeply." She continued her job, all the while dealing with pangs of guilt and remorse.
"Eventually, I found healing. It was an arduous struggle to navigate my personal grief. But by the grace of God, I am living an amazing life," she shared.
She eventually fell in love and married a great guy, and she gave birth to a beautiful daughter years later. They later had a son, and even adopted five children.
"We are a blended family of immigrants and American-born children representing Jewish, Christian, British royal, Hispanic, Ukranian and African cultures. And we all are a Disney family, beautifully woven together by God's grace and living in the shadow of Cinderella's castle in Orlando," she said.
When Falchook saw Planned Parenthood's tweet, she said she had to set the record straight. Falchook stressed that Disney does not need a princess who has had an abortion. Feminists have been "princess-bashing" for years now because they don't understand the "depth of the princess stories," she continued.
"Abortion doesn't empower," she said. "Cinderella, in defying her stepmother and sisters, has been empowering women for thousands of years. Cinderella, the orphan girl, was enslaved by the women in the house, and her story cannot be improved upon. A slave girl, breaking down a door meant to keep her from her destiny as queen (locked by the women assigned to take care of her), speaks volumes to our daughters."
Falchook suspects Planned Parenthood wants to rewrite princess stories because "stories of evil witches trying to kill off beautiful princesses have already been told. I guess they don't like their part of the story".
