Fans have expressed frustration over CD Projekt Red's current plans as it pertains to mod support for "The Witcher 3."
As of now, what players have in the form of mod support for "The Witcher 3" is what CD Projekt Red has dubbed the Modkit.
The Modkit is able to make some significant changes to "The Witcher 3." When used properly, the Modkit can be used to drastically change the visuals of "The Witcher 3," making it either significantly prettier or decidedly less advanced in the graphics department. Modding this part of the game may have even allowed players with slower units to run "The Witcher 3" better with modified, but not quite as good graphics.
Scripting tools were also provided in the Modkit, and they gave players the ability to change item statistics as they wanted to.
Unfortunately for CD Projekt Red, although the Modkit is certainly capable of doing some things, it is not exactly what fans had in mind.
According to Bleeding Cool, what most "Witcher" fans thought was coming in the form of mod support was the RedKit, the same modding tool they used for "The Witcher 2."
It certainly seems as though fans also had a reason to expect that the RedKit was coming for "The Witcher 3."
In an IGN interview from January of last year, CD Projekt Red CEO Marcin Iwinski said that a RedKit would be made available for "The Witcher 3" after the game was launched, but that changed somewhere along the way.
Right now, it appears as though RedKit may not be made available for "The Witcher 3."
According to Polygon, when CD Projekt Red Community Manager Marcin Momot was asked if RedKit would be coming out for the game, his response was that the developer was not planning on releasing anything else.
"Witcher" fans have not taken the news of RedKit's absence well, and it remains to be seen if the negative reaction could prompt CD Projekt Red to change course as it relates to their mod support plans.
