Nathaniel Buzolic will make his much-awaited return as the sexy, mysterious Kol Mikaelson in the upcoming season of the CW hit supernatural series. Executive producer Julie Plec confirmed the news during the show's panel at Comic-Con in early July.
In an interview with TV Line, the star of the new comedy "Significant Mother" shared how excited he was to reprise his role in "The Originals." Although he admitted to having not attended any shooting yet, the actor dished out some exclusive hints about the show.
"From what I understand, this is going to be a flashback-heavy season, which is cool, because it means there's more opportunity for Kol to come back and you can see more of him," he said.
When asked about how he would manage his schedule now that he would be starring in two big projects, Buzolic made it clear that the CW series was his priority.
Meanwhile, the website also revealed that three more new faces will be added to the show's star-studded line up for season 3. There is sexy Aurora, a vampire capable of unleashing power, and Lucien, who comes to town to even the scores with the Mikaelsons. Finally, viewers will be introduced to Detective Kinney, to be played by Jason Dohring, who is bent in keeping the town safe from the bad guys, even if they have fangs.
Showrunner Michael Narducci told The Hollywood Reporter that season 3 would be about "sire lines." He said that viewers would be meeting the first people whom Elijah (Daniel Gillies), Klaus (Joseph Morgan) and Rebekah (Claire Holt) turned their backs on during the early days.
The executive producer also said that among the Mikaelson sisters, Freya (Riley Voelkel) would be the one to get plenty of airtime and that she would be a sort of mentor to Klaus' daughter Hope in controlling her power. Rebekah, meanwhile, will also make a return, but Narducci said that they still have some stories to tell before "it makes sense to bring her back."
"The Originals" season 3 is scheduled to premiere Oct. 8 at 9 p.m. EST on the CW Network.
