'The Flash' season 2: Iris has no plans to usurp Barry's position

Iris has no plans taking the team leadership from Barry in "The Flash" season 2. CW

Iris (Candice Patton) will not be taking over leadership of S.T.A.R. Labs in the upcoming season of the CW series "The Flash."

In an interview with Comicbook, Patton clears up rumors regarding her character's fate in season 2, stressing that she is not planning on usurping anyone's position, least of all Barry's (Grant Gustin).

"I don't know where you guys are hearing this, but I think it's a gross exaggeration that Iris is going to take over leadership at S.T.A.R. Labs. What I will say is that she does encourage Barry Allen to come back to S.T.A.R. Labs and get the team together and keep fighting to protect Central City," said Patton.

Speculations that Iris will become the new leader of S.T.A.R. Labs arose after executive producer Andrew Kreisberg described her as "a natural born leader." In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, he said that while Barry is intent on working solo in the next season, Iris will be the one to keep the team together.

"One of the best things in the premiere is Barry decides that he wants to work alone because he doesn't want to risk anyone else's lives, and Iris is really the one who gets the band back together again. She's the only one who can stand up to Barry," the executive producer said.

Patton clarified that Iris' job will still be with Picture News, where she made a mark as an iconic reporter. She did talk about "a role" in Team Flash that she was excited about, saying it would be playing on her strength.

Meanwhile, Collider reports that the CW hit series will be featuring a six-month time jump and that it will be "a heck of a change" for most of the characters. Danielle Panabaker, who plays Caitlin, reportedly admitted that the season premiere will be "addressing some stuff from the finale." As for when Killer Frost will be seen in the series, the actress revealed that she still did not know yet.

"The Flash" season 2 will premiere on Oct. 6 at 8 p.m. EST on the CW.
