Sneaking into deranged religious cults has never been more exciting than in "The Church in the Darkness," as the developers of the upcoming game have released a new video showing the progress and gameplay of the stealth adventure.

Developer and publisher Paranoid Productions has now released a 10-minute video showcasing the gameplay mechanics and graphics of "The Church in the Darkness." Head developer Richard Rouse walks players through in the gameplay video, which shows a top-down view of the player character as they infiltrate the radical cult, steering clear from the violent and fanatical devouts.

Rouse also explains some of the crowning features of the stealth game which sets is apart from others in the same genre. These include a dynamic cult where players will experience different behavior from the members every time they start a new game. This is further refined by top-notch voice acting and atmosphere set by the game, as both work well to establish the threats which players must face. The video captured by IGN shows more of the features of "The Church in the Darkness."

The game is also set in the political unrest of the 1970s, where the players must face the cult called the Collective Justice Mission. The cult and its leaders have relocated to South America in order to isolate themselves. Players are then tasked to infiltrate the cult and are allowed lethal of non-lethal means in order to locate their in-game nephew Alex who has been drawn to the cult.

"The Church in the Darkness," apart from being a stealth game, is also a rogue-lite title, as it incorporates diluted elements of the roguelike sub-genre. This means that every death leads to a full restart for the players, but they are actually allowed to choose some of the items they have accumulated in-game before their demise. As mentioned above, the cult will change its behavior and severity every time the game restarts, so players can expect this to happen often.

"The Church in the Darkness" has no exact release date yet, but it is expected to arrive sometime in 2018 for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
