2014's "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" starring Megan Fox, William Fichtner, and Tohoru Masamune was a hit and miss for most people. Critics didn't hate it as much as expected and it earned a global box office revenue of $485 million. Now, the sequel is entering production in April.

According to Collider, producers Andrew Form and Bradley Fuller confirmed that the film will begin shooting next month. Most of the production will be done in New York City and Buffalo, and based on the report by the New York Daily News, more than $70 million is estimated to be spent for the filming, $63 million of which is estimated to be spent in New York City alone.

"From production assistants who work behind the cameras to textiles and lumber for set design to local restaurants to feed crew members, New York City knows how to host block-buster films," Mayor Bill de Blasio said in a statement released by his office. "We welcome Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 to New York City, and look forward to the many jobs and tens of millions of dollars this will bring to our local economy."

No details regarding the plot and characters have been revealed, but previous interviews hinted at the possibility of Krang, Dimension X, and Casey Jones appearing in future films. Bepop and Rocksteady have been confirmed to be in the second film of the series.

Fox and the rest of the cast from the first signed for a trilogy so they are expected to make a comeback in this sequel. However, Jonathan Liebesman will not be returning to direct the sequel as he signed on to helm "Man at Arms."

With the director's chair open, "Earth to Echo" director Dave Green is stepping in to take over. Green also served as a production assistant for Raimi's "Spider-Man 2" and "Spider-Man 3" as well as directing six episodes of "Zombie Roadkill."

"Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2" is being penned by Josh Applebaum and Andre Nemec with a tentative release date of June 3, 2016.
