'Super Meat Boy' Wii U release date: title arrives on the Nintendo Wii U later this month

Super Meat Boy Team Meat

"Super Meat Boy" is finally arriving on the Nintendo Wii U. Team Meat has announced via Twitter that the popular platformer title will launch for Nintendo's console this coming May 12.

The announcement also confirms that the Wii U port was handled by BlitWorks, the same team that worked on the PS4, PS Vita and NVidia Shield ports of "Super Meat Boy." It is speculated that this may be the final port of the game that both Team Meat and BlitWorks will work on unless the Nintendo NX also gains a version of the title.

As stated in a report from IGN, the mere fact that it will be released on a Nintendo console is a pleasant surprise for many gamers given that the initial plans of releasing "Super Meat Boy" for the Wii fell apart. According to the report, the main reason the game was not brough to the original Wii was due to Nintendo's strict data size restrictions.

It is further explained that Nintendo's cap for WiiWare titles was at 40MB. However, "Super Meat Boy" had a total size of 661MB, at least for the version available on Xbox Live Arcade. In order to cut the game down to only 40MB they would need to trim the game down to a point where it would be unrecognizable.

There was the option of releasing it on the Wii via a physical retail disc but this plan never came to fruition. Many fans speculate that this may be due to the fact that the cost of releasing the game physically would not garner enough profits to justify the costs and effort to make it happen.

"Super Meat Boy" initially launched for the Xbox 360 and has now become available for the Xbox One thanks to the latter's Backwards Compatibility feature. The game is also available for the PS4, PS Vita, Windows via Steam, OS X and Linux.

If you look at the Church of England’s communications all that it ever seems to highlight is the good works that Christians do to improve the temporal well-being of their neighbours. It is right to highlight these things, but they are not the primary reason for the Church’s existence.
