"Super Bomberman R" rolled out a big update for its Nintendo Switch version, adding a new game mode, a number of new characters, and a few tweaks in the gameplay.

The new game mode is the three-versus-three Grand Prix battle. It can be played in network mode, where it can support up to six Nintendo Switch consoles.

The mode includes two types of matches. The first is Crystal, and centers on collecting crystals, where the team with the most crystals collected wins. The second one is called Basic Bomber, and here, teams have to defeat the opposing team to win.

The big update adds 10 new playable characters to the game, some of which are familiar while others are unexpected and somewhat outlandish choices. Dracula from "Castlevania," Jehuty from "Zone of the Enders," and the mystical ninja Goemon are now playable characters.

Making their to the game from the depths Konami's character catalogs are Reiko from "Rumble Roses," Shiori Fujisaki from "Tokemeki Memorial," and a pair of bombers with Gradius heads.

Surprisingly, Princess Tomato from Hudson Soft's "Princess Tomato in the Salad Kingdom" also gets a spot in the "Super Bomberman R" roster after the update. Also a surprise is the addition of freakish bubble head nurses from "Silent Hill."

The update also includes nine new accessories, all of which are based on other game franchises. It also adds new world, Bomber Planet World, which can be accessed when playing the Story Mode in Standard mode. There are also two new Battle stages for the Standard Mode are now available in the shop.

Finally, the update will fix some bugs and adjust some character and ability details in order to improve the game balance. To that end, the special abilities of Belmont Bomber, Vic Viper Bomber and Pyramid Head Bomber have been adjusted.
