Many fans will agree that in the second season of Netflix's 80s horror series "Stranger Things," which has been released two weeks ago, one of the most fun and interesting character pairings was that of Steve, played by Joe Keery, and Dustin, played by Gaten Matarazzo. However, the very effective partnership was never planned, and was just discovered by the series creators along the way.
In the recap for the season's episode 6, "The Spy," the Duffer Brothers, creator of the breakout series, revealed that the newfound friendship between Dustin and Steve was not part of the original pitch that they made to Netflix for the second season.
Those who have finished watching the season are familiar with how the two ended up being friends. They bonded over matters of the heart and hair as well.
Steve shared to Dustin the secret to his awesome hair. "Fabergé. It's Fabergé Organics. Use the shampoo and the conditioner, and when your hair's damp. It's not wet, okay? When it's damp, do four puffs of the Farrah Fawcett spray," Steve told Dustin.
Steve was nursing a broken heart after a drunk Nancy told him how she truly felt about their relationship. Dustin, on the other hand, was not making any progress on his first crush, Max, played by Saide Sink.
Dustin was also very busy with dealing with a baby Demodog, which he kept secret from his friends. This essentially separated him from his gang, and so Steve, with his experience battling the Demogorgon in season 1, was a very welcome help for Dustin.
"The minute we started writing them together, at this point, we knew the voices of the actors so well, and they just seemed to work really well together. It was like two very different notes that played really nicely together," shared Matt Duffer.
The duo of Steve and Dustin is just one of a number of unlikely, but interesting interactions that "Stranger Things" introduced this season.
