Steve Harvey Shares His Thoughts on Prayer: It's 'Very Calming for Me'

Comedian and "Family Feud" host Steve Harvey loves talking about his Christian faith, and how it helped him persevere amid marriage woes and homelessness.

So when Pastor Cheryl Moore of Zion Temple in North Carolina asked Harvey on Twitter what he does to "re-center" himself during difficult times, the upbeat entertainer revealed that prayer helps him maintain a level head amid all his trials.

"@IAmSteveHarvey What do you do to re-center yourself whenever you are experiencing a difficult season in your life? #AskSteve," Moore asked Harvey last week.

Harvey's response, which he made  by way of a video post, was quite inspiring. "One thing I've always been able to do when I get in those positions, I be still. You hear old people say it all the time, but you've got to go somewhere and get still," he said. "When I get still, I use prayer. Prayer is very calming for me."

Harvey then elaborated how powerful prayer can be for believers. "I don't want to sound hokey or anything like that to you, but I can think of no better way to center myself, to gather myself, than to be still and pray," he said. "Prayer does change things, it really does."

But people shouldn't always pray for an easy, worry-free life, said the comedian. What people should pray for, he said, is strength and fortitude amid trying times.

"It hit me this morning — don't pray for it to be easy. Pray for YOU to be stronger. #morninginspiration," the producer and host of "The Steve Harvey Morning Show" tweeted earlier this June.

Harvey indeed experienced a rags-to-riches story. Before he became a success, Harvey suffered from homelessness as well as two failed marriages. But instead of getting beaten up by his failures, Harvey used it to strengthen his faith in God.
