Starfield Named as Most Awarded Canadian Christian Band

|PIC1|Popular band Starfield continues to garner accolades as they've already been honoured as "Group of the Year" by the 2006 Covenant Awards and 2007 Shai Awards, becoming today's most awarded Canadian Christian band.

At the beginning of the month, they received a 2007 Juno nomination, the Canadian equivalent to the American GRAMMY Award, for "Contemporary Christian/Gospel Album of the Year" for its current, acclaimed album, Beauty in the Broken.

The album was also named "Contemporary/Pop Album of the Year" by both the 2006 Covenant Awards and 2007 Shai Awards, as well as received the 2006 Covenant Award for "Album of the Year."

The Juno nomination came after Starfield received three 2007 Shai awards (Canada's Christian Music People's Choice Awards). The band not only claimed "Group of the Year" and "Contemporary/Pop Album of the Year" honours, but received its fourth consecutive Shai for "Artist of the Year."

Late last year, the band was similarly honoured during the 28th Annual Gospel Music Association (GMA) Canada Covenant Awards ceremony held October 27, 2006 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. After opening the ceremony with a well-received performance of "Hand That Holds The World" from Beauty in the Broken, Starfield went on to claim four 2006 Covenant Awards. In addition to the awards already mentioned above, the band took home the trophy for "Song of the Year" for "Son of God" from Beauty in the Broken.. The Covenant Awards are Canada's equivalent to the GMA Music Dove Awards.
