The buzz surrounding "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" has not died down yet but fans are already speculating how the trilogy will eventually end. Given, the ending won't be happening for another four years or so, but with the awakening of the Force, no one can blame the fans.

But is the ending already in sight, at least in terms of story? Sequel trilogy writer and producer Lawrence Kasdan dropped a non-definitive answer.

The new "Star Wars" sequel trilogy kicked off with this month's "Star Wars: The Force Awakens." To say that the latest film in the space opera franchise raised a lot of questions is an understatement. Episode 7 did leave a lot of knots untied that fans have resorted to theories about who the characters are, where they're going, and what could have possibly lead them to their current journey.

Surely, the next two films are going to answer that. But if one hopes to find clues now, then these 'clues' might not exactly lead them to the answer that the final film is going to provide. Apparently, the sequel trilogy was started without a clear arch and end in sight. It's because the director tasked to helm each film has so much liberty over what the previous director has started.

Kasdan explains to Los Angeles Times, "We talked about [the ending] — and there's a certain thing that people who are involved with it feel should happen. There's a kind of movement that happens. But it's not in your control. It's going to veer off with Rian [Johnson], and it's going to veer off another way with Colin [Trevorrow]."

Episode VII was directed by J.J. Abrams (and many noted that he has done a good job in reawakening the Force), while Episodes VIII and IX will be directed by Rian Johnson and Colin Trevorrow, respectively. Abrams already told his friend and actor Greg Grunberg, who in turn related it to The Washington Post, that the next film's script is amazing and that he "regrets" not having written it and directed.

So it is indeed interesting to note that some of the theories and speculations that sprung out of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" might make their way into the final episode of the new trilogy. But it is also interesting to note that Episode IX has not been ironed out yet and will rely heavily on what Colin Trevorrow foresees the ending to look like.

More on this soon as more Episodes VIII and IX news becomes available. The last two films in the trilogy are scheudled for release on May 26, 2017 and May 24, 2019, respectively.
