During this year's San Diego Comic Con, an exclusive clip of "Spider-Man: Homecoming" was shown to the audiences. This clip has not yet been released to the public but it does showcase the focus on a high school setting and the type of comedic moments the film will have. The panel also confirmed that Vulture is indeed the film's villain and a rundown of the film's main cast and characters have been released as well.
The clip, as stated by IGN, showcases Peter Parker aka Spider-Man going through his daily life as a high school student while still working on his career as a superhero. There are clips of him still being able to answer questions in class while secretly working on his webbing formula or other gadgets for his suit.
Director Jon Watts explained that the MCU had already explored a film where a billionaire became a superhero, where Norse gods fought for mankind and where an adult scientist became the Hulk but this would be the first film to explore the life of a 15-year old high school kid who now had to keep an incredible secret while fighting to protect others.
As stated in a report from Screen Rant, Vulture has been confirmed to be the film's villain, although it is not yet confirmed that Michael Keaton is indeed playing the character.
"Vulture's the first real villain in the 'Spider-Man' comics. He's in the second issue. He's one of the classics from the best rogues' gallery out there, and we've never seen him, he's never been brought to life," Watts explained regarding their choice of villain.
Indian actor Tony Revoloni, known for his role in "Grand Budapest Hotel," has been cast as Flash Thompson and Zendaya has been cast as a character known as Michelle, rumored to be Michelle Gonzales from the comic books. Jacob Batalon has been cast as Ned Leeds but the character is now Peter's classmate instead of an older co-worker.
Laura Harrier has been cast as Liz Allan, a potential love interest for Peter Parker, a character who disappeared for some time in the comics but later resurfaced and eventually became the wife of Harry Osborn.
"Spider-Man: Homecoming" opens in theaters on July 7, 2017.
