SPEAK Presents Soundcheck 2006: Questioning Power: Challenge, Submit or Sacrifice?

The annual Soundcheck 2006 presented by SPEAK, will be take place at St Mary’s Church in London, February 24th –26th, with the theme “Questioning Power: Challenge, Submit or Sacrifice?.”

|PIC1|“Soundcheck will empower and equal you to challenge injustice globally and locally, as you meet people who are part of the Network and learn together,” SPEAK states on their website.

Hosting seminars and workshops, SPEAK will be “exploring the use of power by us, by our society, and by Jesus.”

Workshops will offer practical training in everything from lobbying your MP to setting up a SPEAK group. Many of the seminars explore issues of power in different contexts, such as the church, the media and global trade.

Speakers for the workshops include members of SPEAK groups from around the UK and guests from other organisations, including Debbie Forster from Ichthus, who will be speaking on “Community – the power of relationships,” and Sam Goddard from Action Aid on “Corporate Accountability: Where the Campaign is Heading.”

During the event, prolific writer and speaker Elaine Storkey will speak about “Jesus, the Bible and power,” while prominent church leader Fran Beckett will deliver Sunday message on the Church as Movement at St Mary’s.

In addition, SPEAK will host Day of Action 2006 on February 27th, immediately following Soundcheck 2006. The event will run with the theme “Bearing the Burdens,” based on the bible verse, “Carry each other's burdens, and in this way you will fulfil the law of Christ.” (Galatians 6 v2)
