Sony Xperia Z3 no longer offered by T-Mobile: Android 5.0 update not coming?

Verizon is now the only major U.S. carrier offering the Sony Xperia Z3, after T-Mobile dropped the device from its product line-up.

Over the weekend, in a tweet by a company representative, T-Mobile said that it is now discontinuing the Xperia Z3 line in its official product offers. No explanations were offered on why the network carrier chose to stop selling the Xperia Z3, although speculations say that this might be the effect of the unit's poor performance in terms of sales.

When the Xperia Z3 came out last year, major carriers included the smartphone in their product line-up, with T-Mobile announcing the sale in October 2014. At the start, the carrier came out with plans for subscribers by including the Xperia Z3 in its device installment plans, with payments of only $26.25 a month for 24 months. T-Mobile even celebrated the launch of the device, with the company calling the partnership a "powerful combo."

Since the company stopped offering the unit, one of the things that T-Mobile should now be addressing is whether the owners of the device would have the Android Lollipop update. The Z3 went on sale at almost the same time as the Android 5.0 update was released, but Sony has somewhat been slow in offering the upgrades to its line of products.

Good news though, as even if the Z3 has already disappeared from the product page of T-Mobile, the company's brand new support page still lists the Z3 as one of the upgradeable products for an Android 5.0 Lollipop update.

Still, Sony's Xperia Z3 has been touted as one of the most celebrated Android smartphones currently on the market. With a 5.2-inch full HD display, a 20.7 MP main camera, and scratch, water, and dust resistant features, the Z3 is Sony's flagship answer to popular Android-based smartphones by stiff competitors like HTC, Samsung, and Apple.
