The star of reality TV show Sister Wives Kody Brown has just legally undergone a divorce from his first wife in order to marry his fourth wife.
Brown confirmed to E! News that he finally divorced Meri to marry Robyn. His second and third wives, Christine and Janelle, are not legally married to him. He added that they made the decision collectively as a family.
"We have chosen to legally restructure our family," the Brown family said in a statement. "We made this decision together as a family. We are grateful to our family, friends and fans for all their love and support."
TLC's Sister Wives shows the lives of a polygamous family as they try to fit in to a society that does not accept their beliefs and lifestyle. Brown has a total of 17 children - one with Meri, six with Janelle, six with Christine, one with Robyn, and three more from a previous relationship.
His fourth wife Robyn earlier admitted on the show that she had doubts about being part of a "plural marriage."
"I'm happy on the good days and when Kody shows love and affection, but on a bad day, I question my importance to the family and if Kody still cares about me," she said.
At the same time, she doubted whether or not being in a reality show is the right decision for her, especially since she enjoyed college and work so much and had to give both up when they went public with their polygamous relationship.
"When we were living in Utah, I had started going to college, and I was really enjoying it. It was very fulfilling to me," she said in an episode. "I ended up working at a residential treatment centre for at-risk youth and I love it. Loved, loved, loved it. I ended up losing that job because of my lifestyle, because of going public, because of an investigation. So, I never went back to college after that."
