Selena Gomez's Kidney Donor Francia Raisa on Recovery: Actress felt 'helpless' after surgery procedure

Last September, the news about Selena Gomez getting a kidney transplant was made public. Recently, her donor and close friend Francia Raisa shared her thoughts about the procedure and the whole situation in general.

Raisa revealed that the transplant ended up being harder on her, the donor, than on Gomez.

"It's harder as the donor because we are losing something our body didn't need to lose," the 29-year-old actress said. She added that Gomez was "up and at it immediately" simply because she was the one receiving what her body "needs."

The actress also said that she felt helpless during the first two months following the surgery. She shared that some of her favorite things to do were walking, drinking her coffee, and taking care of her dog. She could not do any of those activities for some time after the operation.

However, there was no hint of regret in the statements Raisa provided in her interviews. If anything, it brought her closer to her friend. The girls bonded together so much to the point that one already considers the other as family.

For some time after the surgery, Gomez and Raisa decided that they would be in the company of relatives. Raisa found this extension of a family as "really amazing." She shared how she already lost her grandparents, and being treated like a granddaughter to Gomez's grandparents made her happy.

"It was cool because now I have a big family," Raisa said.

Gomez needed a new kidney after she was diagnosed with lupus. The procedure was done in June of 2017, but it was kept as a secret for a while. Raisa and Gomez decided to later share the situation to the public in September of last year.

Gomez has been nothing but thankful for the sacrifice of her friend for her sake. The 25-year old celebrity said that she felt blessed because of Raisa's actions.
