MTV has recently announced during the Television Critics Association's summer press tour that it is renewing the hit series "Scream" for a second season.

Mina Lefevre, MTV's executive vice president of series development and head of scripted programming, told the press that the network was very happy with how the audience responded to the show. According to Deadline, "Scream" averaged an impressive 66 percent increase week after week in L+3 over L+SD ratings. It also garnered, across all platforms, over 7.9 million streams.

"It has been a wonderful experience working with Bob Weinstein and his team, who are such connoisseurs of this genre and we are thrilled by how our viewers have responded to the reinvention of "Scream." We look forward to another season filled with suspense, horror and more twists and turns," Lefevre said.

"Scream" will not be following the anthology format. In an interview with She Knows, Bex Taylor-Klaus, who plays the role of Audrey, revealed that most of the characters who managed to survive the masked killer's vendetta will be back for season 2.

"It's not going to be like 'American Horror Story.' There's definitely more to the story," she said.

Basically, fans will still see Audrey, Emma (Willa Fitzgerald), Noah (John Karna), Will (Connor Weil), Brooke (Carlson Young), and Kieran (Amadeus Serafini) as they attempt to move on with their lives after the traumatic incident that took place during season 1.

The actress also revealed that almost all the characters would have "something going on" in the upcoming installment, particularly her character Audrey.

According to Taylor-Klaus, "It's going to take a second for her to reconnect with Noah, but she seems to have kind of solidified her bond with Emma."

As for Bella Thorne, who plays disturbed Nina Patterson, the actress revealed in The Wrap that she will be also be back to reprise her role. She actually played it coy, preferring to nod and wink as her answer to the probing question.

MTV has not yet announced the exact date when "Scream" season 2 will return, but sources posit it to be sometime in 2016.
