San Francisco 49ers NFL 2015 roster news: Blaine Gabbert to remain as starting quarterback

An impressive showing in Sunday's 17–16 win over the thriving Atlanta Falcons earned quarterback Blaine Gabbert another starting nod for the San Francisco 49ers when they play on Nov. 22 against the Seattle Seahawks.

49ers head coach Jim Tomsula made the announcement last Monday and said before the decision that Gabbert "did a nice job."

Gabbert finished the game against the Falcons having 15 completions for 185 yards and two touchdowns.

The 26-year-old quarterback did throw two interceptions but he was not sacked in the win, which also ended a 10-game losing streak for him as a starter, according to ESPN.

"I'm so appreciative for this opportunity. I just wanted to go out there ... and just have fun. You play well when you having fun, and that was the biggest thing," Gabbert said following the win in a report by ESPN.

As Gabbert gets the starting role again for their matchup with the Seahawks following their bye week this week, it means that 49ers' long time starting quarterback Colin Kaepernick will have the backup role.

Kaepernick is San Francisco's full-time starting quarterback since the 2013 season when they made it to the Super Bowl. But following that appearance, everything declined for the 49ers and Kaepernick, who continues to struggle this 2015 season.

The 28-year-old quarterback has 144 completions for 1,615 yards and six touchdowns, with five interceptions in nine games played this season.

Now, as the 49ers move forward with Gabbert as their starting quarterback, their focus will be on improving their record for a better finish to the year.

San Francisco is last in the National Football Conference (NFC) West at 3–6 and its chances of making it past the regular season are slim.

But Gabbert would like to focus on their game against the Seahawks who are sitting above them in their division at 4–4 and said, according to ESPN, that they will prepare for that meeting and walk on the field expecting a win.
