The San Antonio Spurs extended their winning streak to four games this Saturday at home when they defeated the young team of the Philadelphia 76ers, 92–83.
Along with the win over Philadelphia, San Antonio's streak includes victories over the Charlotte Hornets (114–94), Sacramento Kings (106–88), and the Portland Trail Blazers (113–101).
Leading the Spurs was offseason acquisition All-Star forward LaMarcus Aldridge who had a double-double 17 points and 19 rebounds, also having two assists and one block.
Franchise playmaker Tony Parker followed Aldridge with 16 points, two rebounds, three assists, and one steal.
Veteran big man Tim Duncan added 15 points, four rebounds, two assists, one steal, and five rejections.
In a report by the Associated Press, Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich complimented the 76ers and their head coach Brett Brown, who was his longtime assistant.
"They are going to play from minute one to 48 with the same standard, the same hustle, the same camaraderie. It's really a tribute to their character and Brett Brown as a coach. He just does a fantastic job," Popovich said, according to the report.
The Spurs now hold the second spot in the Western Conference standings with a 7–2 record following the win; above them are the unbeaten Golden State Warriors who are at 11–0.
Meanwhile the 76ers were led by the third overall pick in this year's draft, center Jahlil Okafor, who had a double-double as well, tallying 21 points and 12 rebounds, with two assists and two blocks. Helping him was second-year forward Jerami Grant who had 12 points, four rebounds, one steal, and one block.
The loss kept Philadelphia winless as the team now holds a 10–0 record to sit at the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings.
Up next for the Spurs will be a home stand against the Trail Blazers today, Monday. Meanwhile, the 76ers will also be back in action today visiting the Dallas Mavericks.
