'Rocket League' multiplayer: game to feature more players taking part in individual matches

"Rocket League" may soon allow more than eight players to take part in a single game simultaneously.

Recently, Psyonix Vice President Jeremy Dunham went on the Major Nelson podcast and revealed that the developers indeed looked into increasing the player cap before.

According to Dunham, their previous experiences with upping the player cap did exactly yielded positive results. As it stands now, Dunham even indicated that 4v4 is already quite chaotic, so going up from there may be too much.

Still, Dunham and the developers have, apparently, not ruled out the possibility that more than eight players can participate in a single game at a time, although he indicated that the idea may only be considered again given special circumstances.

Specifically, Psyonix may only think about increasing the player cap should they also decide to feature larger stadiums inside "Rocket League."

At this point, a major change such as a higher player cap may not be implemented any time soon, especially since Psyonix is likely focused more on rolling the game out properly to its new home, the Xbox One.

The Xbox One port of the sports title is currently set to launch on Feb. 17.

In related news, a new patch has just been released for personal computer (PC) and PlayStation 4 ports of the game. In a post on the game's Steam Community page, the developers outlined the new changes coming via the patch.

Arguably the patch's most notable addition is a new banning mechanic that will affect players who change game files in order to gain an unfair advantage. Also included in the patch is a new tweak that will enable PlayStation 4 players to view their old replay files. Several bug fixes are also being delivered to the PC version of the game.

More news about "Rocket League" should be made available soon.
