Microsoft backing the ideas for the franchise reboot of "Tomb Raider" was reportedly the factor that led to the Xbox One getting a timed exclusive arrangement for "Rise of the Tomb Raider."
According to Phil Rogers of Square Enix, Microsoft was one of the earliest supporters of the newly rebooted "Tomb Raider" franchise, and they expressed their support back when most companies were hesitant to do so.
Because of that initial support, Microsoft was able to snag that timed exclusive deal for "Rise of the Tomb Raider" when it became apparent that the first installment of the rebooted franchise was doing well.
Thanks to the timed exclusive arrangement that Microsoft was able to settle, the company will now be in charge of publishing the Xbox 360 and Xbox One versions of "Rise of the Tomb Raider," according to Polygon.
The timed exclusive arrangement was not wholly embraced upon its announcement however, as some mistakenly believed that "Rise of the Tomb Raider" would only be coming out for Xbox consoles.
Instead, Microsoft will simply get a head start on releasing the game, with the game already scheduled to come out on Nov. 10. After that, "Rise of the Tomb Raider" will be available for the PC starting early 2016 and on the PlayStation 4 the following holiday season.
In related news, a third entry to the rebooted "Tomb Raider" franchise has also been reportedly revealed, according to Gamespot.
The apparent leak came from Phil Rogers, CEO of Square Enix Americas and Europe.
It is worth noting that none of the companies directly involved in the rebooted "Tomb Raider" franchise have yet to confirm that a third game is being planned, meaning Rogers comments could have been said mistakenly.
Even with a third game for the rebooted franchise not officially confirmed as of now, many still believe that a trilogy will eventually be the end result.
