'Rick and Morty' season 3 updates: Creators drop hints about the third season

It's been more than two months since fans saw the last of Rick and the gang in "Rick and Morty," yet the hype for the animated series has not died down. The confirmation that creators Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon now have ideas for season 3 also fueled the hype, but when will the next batch of episodes be aired?

So far, there's no word yet about "Rick and Morty" season 3, especially regarding the release date. However, it was hinted by Mr. Poopy Butthole in the last scenes of the season 2 finale episode that the show will return "in a year and half longer."

Other than that, details about the third season are pretty much kept under wraps, which would only give birth to more rumors and speculations. One speculation comes from Bloody Disgusting, which mentioned that season 3 will consist of 19 episodes.

The source wasn't mentioned in the publication, but Roiland was quick enough to dismiss the rumor and wrote on Twitter, "No idea who started the 19 episodes thing. Misinformation turning into news. Gotta love the Internet!"

Meanwhile, there are more hints that can be picked up from the creators' previous statements to publications that should give fans some ideas on what to expect from season 3.

One is the return of Mr. Meeseeks, which was previously reported. Harmon told The Hollywood Reporter that he has made a promise to himself to bring back the character/s in the next season.

Rick, who was last seen sent to an intergalactic prison in the season 2 finale, may also get out of that trouble easily. Harmon told Den of Geek that season 3 won't be focusing on episodes following a certain situation back in season 2. He added that "things should be okay pretty quickly" when it comes to Rick's situation.

MoviePilot also reported that season 3 may feature the Evil Morty, and as Harmon hinted, there may be revisiting old plots happening in the upcoming season.
