If the final scene of the season 2 finale of "Rick and Morty" is any indication, the show could be released sometime in 2017, and what that means for fans is that it will be a long wait.

At the end of the finale episode, it was revealed that the show will be back in "a year and a half longer," as previously reported. The season ended on a cliffhanger and brought questions as what could really happen to Rick, now that he's been held captive.

Fortunately, co-creator Dan Harmon shared some tidbits on how "Rick and Morty" season 3 is doing. Den of Geek reported that the animated series has been in production since October and everything is going smoothly.

The report added that writer Dan Guterman recently stated through a Twitter post — which has since been deleted — that things are great at "Rick and Morty" factory. The message has been removed to avoid fans who may want to press on for spoilers.

But Den of Geek still managed to speak to Harmon, who confirmed that there are several developments in the writers' room. The production has hired new writers and there will be female writers  onboard.

Harmon believes that the team should have female writers to help the team come up with balanced ideas. "I think the important thing about gender in the writers' room is not representation, it's balance," he said, according to Den of Geek.

As for what's going to happen in the upcoming season, Harmon was careful enough not to spoil the fun and only shared that fans should expect stories not merely focusing on what happened to Rick after he's been taken away.

"I don't think anybody wants to do a third season that simply spends a whole bunch of episodes dealing with a situation that we created at the end of the second season," he revealed.

Meanwhile, those who can't get enough of "Rick and Morty" need to catch a special "improvised" episode of the series featuring creators Harmon and Justin Roiland in Cinefamily, Los Angeles on Dec. 11.

As stated in the announcement from Cinefamily, there will be "live drawing and general drunken high energy madness." There will also be a Q&A portion with the creators and the Smiths, Beth and Jerry, voiced by Sarah Chalke and Chris Parnell, respectively.
