"Resident Evil 7" players will have to wait a little longer to get their hands on the upcoming "Not a Hero" downloadable content (DLC).

The free DLC was initially scheduled for a spring release, but Capcom has revealed that it will arrive at a much later date. Capcom has decided to delay the DLC to make sure that the update will be up to the standards players expect. The studio released a video on Monday featuring "Resident Evil 7" director Masachika Kawata and producer Kōshi Nakanishi explaining the situation to anticipating fans worldwide.

"We were working very hard to get the DLC ready in time for the spring release, and we got close to completing the game content," Kawata said. "Our aim is for this content is to match the high quality of the main game, so we need more development time in order to achieve that goal."

Nakanishi went on to assure fans that the wait will be worth it. "However, in light of the incredible reception to the release of 'Resident Evil 7,' we concluded that this DLC was not good enough to meet those high expectations," Nakanishi added. "Rest assured we'll use this time to create something our fans love."

Polygon notes the "Not a Hero" DLC will still be free once it officially launches. Announced in February, the free DLC features the return of iconic "Resident Evil" character Chris Redfield — one of the leads from the original game.

"Resident Evil 7" executive producer Jun Takeuchi wrapped the video up by expressing his regrets at the late DLC. He also gave fans some good news and revealed that Capcom is working on another expansion for the game. Unfortunately, further details about the planned update were not given.

A definitive release date for the "Not a Hero" DLC has yet to be announced, but it is expected to be out sometime later this year.

Developed and published by Capcom, "Resident Evil 7" is available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC platforms.
