Japanese video game developer and publisher Capcom Co., Ltd. is considering an HD remake of "Resident Evil 2."
News of the company taking the project into consideration came directly from producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi.
Hirabayashi can be looked at as quite a credible source. He has worked on numerous "Resident Evil" installments since joining the company, according to IGN. This include involvement in the visual and animation departments for "Resident Evil 5" and the original game in the franchise.
Hirabayashi's contributions to the franchise also include taking on the role of producer for "Resident Evil 6," as well as for "Resident Evil HD Remaster."
With those games now in the books, Hirabayashi is reportedly eyeing a possible HD remake of "Resident Evil 2." According to the producer himself, he immediately started working on his pitch for a "Resident Evil 2" HD revival right after the remake of the original one was done. Hirabayashi said that he just cleaned up the proposal he made back then before putting it in front of the big bosses at Capcom.
Despite actually revealing that he has indeed pitched the project to his superiors, Hirabayashi ultimately refrained from saying whether or not his proposal was successful.
Even with the unsatisfying account from Hirabayashi, it still appears as though Capcom is leaning towards making an HD version of "Resident Evil 2."
Prior to Hirabayashi revealing that he had indeed pitched the game, Capcom had already begun testing the waters for a possible remake. The company utilized their R&D Division 1 to take the temperature of the gaming audience as it related to an HD remake of "Resident Evil 2," and the news thus far has proven to be positive, according to Kotaku.
Even with the overwhelmingly positive response and the pitch from Hirabayashi, Capcom has still kept silent on the subject of a possible "Resident Evil 2" remake. As of now, fans can only hope and wait that the project does indeed push through.
