Season 3 of the critically acclaimed drama series "Rectify" premieres July 9 and picks up right where it ended, with Daniel Holden (Aden Young) in need of a new home and unsure of his future.
Last season, Daniel figured out that his life and that of his family would continue to be tangled with his murder conviction after meeting with Senator Roland Foulkes (Michael O'Neill) and D.A. Sondra Person (Sharon Conley). In an exclusive video clip released by Yahoo TV, viewers will see Daniel coming to visit his sister Amantha (Abigail Spencer), asking for her help again by letting him stay at her apartment.
Daniel just agreed to a plea deal in the rape and murder case he got imprisoned for 19 years ago, despite evidence of his innocence. Weary of everything, he just wanted his family to be spared and to be able to start anew.
His bad encounter with Ted Jr. (Clayne Crawford), his stepfather's son, continued to foreshadow his attempt to move forward. It certainly did not help that he was clearly attracted to Teddy's wife, Tawney (Adelaide Clemens), whom he got to know after his release from prison.
Then there is his mother, Janet Talbot (J. Smith-Cameron), who suffered long from his ordeal. With his admission of guilt, she and his sister will face another depressing situation of hearing his name brought up and connected again to the murder he did not commit.
In an interview with Channel Guide, Young shared what viewers can expect on the new season of "Rectify."
"The show begins, literally, an hour after Season 2 finishes. He's re-entering the institutional world. He's now on parole, he's on probation, and he's got to deal with all those very restrictive authority scenarios once again. And the one thing we know about Daniel [is] authority has never been his best friend. There's a lot going on, you know, before Daniel can walk away from his life in Paulie. That is still yet to be explored," the actor said.
Variety called "Rectify" "a master class in nuance, in small looks and long pauses that say more than pages of dialogue, where even a trip to the local convenience store fosters a sense of unease."
Season 3 premieres at 10 p.m. Thursday on SundanceTV.
