Public campaign to trust self-driving cars launched by Waymo

An educational campaign on trusting self-driving cars has been launched by Alphabet in the greater Phoenix area.

After launching an "Early Rider" program back in April, the Phoenix area has become an important market for their self-driving cars. The campaign aims to lift the skepticism of many about self-driving cars. It is also a way for Waymo to tell people that these autonomous Chrysler Pacifica minivans will be a common thing in the near future.

The campaign, simply called "Let's Talk Self-Driving" has is its own site to further educate drivers, riders, and even commuters on how autonomous cars can help to make a better future for all.

The first of which is that getting home safe is a top priority for every driver. However, no matter how careful one driver is, it just takes one reckless individual to cause accidents. Waymo can cut down the 94 percent human error that happens on any road. Aged people can now drive around safely with self-driving vehicles and the same thing goes for blind people and others with physical disabilities.

Perhaps the best thing the Waymo can do is to cancel out drunk driving. Every drunk driving incident could have been prevented if the driver had a level mind while going back home. A car driving a drunk owner back home is very convenient for everyone.

Lastly, for people on-the-go, driving to work means time needs to be factored in; and whether it be thirty minutes or one hour, it can mean a lot for prep work but is instead spent on driving.

Waymo CEO John Krafcik said in a statement published by Medium, "Education begins with awareness, so we're beginning this campaign with a series of digital and outdoor advertising campaigns in Arizona. Our hope is to grow this conversation into a national dialogue and provide opportunities for people to get up close with this technology."
