Actor Dominic Purcell knew about FOX's plans to revive "Prison Break" long before it was announced to the public.

In his recent chat with E! News, the actor who played the role of Lincoln Burrows revealed that he and fellow "Prison Break" star Wentworth Miller saw the reboot coming long before FOX co-chairman Gary Newman announced that a 10-episode miniseries has been given the green light.

"It's very exciting. It's been in the works for a while now," Purcell said during the interview. "Wentworth and I were aware of it about three months ago, or actually way before that. And we're just stoked. We're very, very happy to come back. I know the fans have been wanting that and we have too."

With the onset of reboots and remakes of past TV series, it is not surprising that FOX would want to see the wrongfully convicted Burrows and his highly genius brother Michael Scofield (Miller) back on TV, especially when fans got excited to see them back together again in The CW's superhero series "The Flash."

However, Purcell refused to provide further details about how the network will bring back the series after the events in the finale back in 2009.

"I know that we're starting from where we left off on the show," Purcell said. "I know that story but I can't tell you what it is. It's really exciting though. It will make sense for the fans."

FOX's other CEO Dana Walden also revealed that the special 10-episode run of the serial crime drama will pick up several years after the events that happened in the series finale. Walden said that the legendary brothers who managed to escape prison using Scofield's elaborate plan will both return, together with some of the other fan-favorite characters. However, there are no updates yet regarding the list of cast members who have signed up for the show's return.

The 10-part "Prison Break" miniseries is slated to air in 2016.
