Prayer is Christians' weapon of choice €” just like Jesus €” when face to face with evil, says author David Ireland

Dr. David D. Ireland, author of the new book called "The Weapon of Prayer: Mastering Your Greatest Defense Against the Enemy," believes that Christians must use their connection to God to battle all the negativity that seems to pervade the world nowadays.

"I want to challenge Christians to remember that they are in battle, and so we must be able to use prayer as a weapon," Ireland writes in the Gospel Herald. "Jesus used it that way - it was His weapon of choice whenever He had to go toe to toe with Satan. I want to encourage people to get back to that place where they understand the power of being on bended knee."

There are some people who think prayer is ineffective, but Ireland says that it is only ineffective because they have assigned it as "a fix-it tool for everything." Ireland further explains that prayer is not forcing, but simply asking God for His help and guidance.

"The Bible is sympathetic about the question of evil, but prayer provides an answer. It's not the only answer, but we ought not to eliminate it from the arsenal of answers," he said.

Ireland says he is praying that people will understand how they can grow as Christians during this difficult moment in history. "Christianity flourishes in times of difficulty. Right now, when we're battling all of these wars and atrocities, this is a fertile ground for Christianity. When Christians were being thrown to lions and wild beasts in the midst of the Colosseum, the Church grew, because people recognised the significance of a relationship with God during times of evil," he says.

Ireland points out that Christians might not have all the answers they need to combat evil, but as long as they turn their affections towards God, He will be there to comfort them in times of trouble.
