'Pokemon Sun and Moon' release date, starter news: New details on Pokemon and Battle Royal features

During the E3 Nintendo focused primarily on promoting "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" but as reported by Escapist Magazine, the company did reveal new footage for "Pokemon Sun and Moon," along with a video presentation that showcases some of the new Pokemon and battle mechanics.

The three new Pokemon are the Normal/Flying-type Pikipek, the Normal-type Yungoos and the Bug-type Grubbin. Pikipek is designed similar to a woodpecker, Yungoos is reportedly based on a smiling mongoose and Grubbin is similar to a beetle.

According to the report, these three Pokemon all seem to be low-level introductory Pokemon that are encountered at the beginning of the game. This would make them akin to Pidgey, Rattata and Caterpie from the original "Pokemon Red, Blue and Yellow" titles, which are also found in the beginning areas of the aforementioned games.

One of the new mechanics showcased in the video is the 4-player multiplayer battle called Battle Royal. In this type of fight four players bring out three of their Pokemon for a free-for-all match against each other. It is further explained that the winner is the one with the most Pokemon defeated and the one with the most Pokemon left standing.

This new Battle Royal is expected to breathe more life into the multiplayer aspects of the series which focuses mostly on one-on-one battles and Pokemon trading. With the new mechanics it will promote more players to play together whether locally or across the world.

Revealed in the trailer are the other forms of the two legendary Pokemon for "Pokemon Sun and Moon," Solgaleo and Lunala. The Pokemon Magearna is also shown in the clip and this will be the main game where it will be a playable Pokemon instead of just being a rare gift or event Pokemon.

"Pokemon Sun and Moon" will release for the Nintendo 3DS this coming Nov. 18.
