A challenge is in front of the Pittsburgh Steelers' offense as leading rusher, running back DeAngelo Williams, suffered an ankle injury in their season closer win over the Cleveland Browns last Sunday.
In Tuesday's press conference, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said Williams is day-to-day because of the injury which is likely not a major health concern.
According to ESPN, a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed no "structural damage" to Williams' injured ankle.
The 32-year-old veteran left their game against Cleveland in the first half and never checked back in.
In Williams' first year with the Steelers after nine seasons with the Carolina Panthers, he had 200 carries for 907 yards and 11 touchdowns in 16 games.
Williams is still uncertain for their Wild Card Playoff game versus the Cincinnati Bengals this Saturday and Tomlin said they will focus on their remaining running backs backup Fitzgerald Toussaint and Jordan Todman.
In a report by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, it seems like Toussaint will get the starting stint if Williams is unable to play against Cincinnati.
Toussaint replaced Williams when he left the game versus the Browns and Tomlin was impressed with their backup running back, saying he did a "rock-solid job," also calling him a "diligent worker."
"I think he's one of those guys that everybody is excited about seeing play. They are excited about seeing him get an opportunity because he's a guy that doesn't say much," Tomlin said about Toussaint.
"He's extremely low maintenance. He really works hard to put himself in position to be a positive asset to us when given the opportunity. He was given that on Sunday, and he delivered," he added.
In five games played this season, the 25-year-old has 18 carries for 42 yards, with his best performance coming against Cleveland having 12 carries for 24 yards.
But if Williams is cleared for action this Saturday, he and Toussaint will be dangerous offensive threats for the Bengals' defense in the Wild Card playoff game.
