'Penny Dreadful' season 3 update: A new horror joins the series

A new terror joins "Penny Dreadful" when it airs for its third season next year, with some of the cast from the previous season also returning to reprise their roles.

A new horror icon joins the cast of "Penny Dreadful" season 3 which already features Frankenstein (Harry Treadaway), Dorian Gray (Reeve Carney), and creature character John Clare (Rory Kinnear).

Dr. Henry Jekyll is the newest literary horror character, created by Robert Louis Stevenson in his book "The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde," who will join "Penny Dreadful."

The role will be played by Shazad Latif who starred in the movie "The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel."

Other additions to the cast of characters "Penny Dreadful" season 3 are Dr. Alexander Sweet played by Christian Camargo ("Dexter," "The Hurt Locker"), a zoologist who will become friends with Vanessa (Eva Green); Dr. Seward's mysterious young secretary portrayed by Sam Barnett ("2012," "Jupiter Ascending"); Wes Studi's ("Hell on Wheels," "A Million Ways to Die in the West") Kaetenay the Native American, who will develop a deep connection with Ethan (Josh Hartnett) and become a part of Sir Malcom's (Timothy Dalton) alliance; and Jessica Barden's ("The Outcast," "Far from the Madding Crowd") Justine, the young assistant of Lily (Billie Piper) and Dorian Gray.

The multi-awarded series, which won at the 62nd MPSE Golden Reel Awards and 2015 BAFTA Television Craft Awards, will also bring back Joan Clayton played by Patti LuPone. She will join the cast as a regular in the show to play the character Dr. Seward, Vanessa's unconventional doctor.

"Penny Dreadful" season 3 will highlight the origins of Ethan's transformation into a werewolf.

"Penny Dreadful" season 3 is slated to run for nine episodes and is currently being filmed in Dublin, Ireland. This co-production of Sky Atlantic and Showtime will return to haunt television screens in 2016.
