"Outlander" season 2 has updates for its second season and the latest of which is that a new actor has landed an important role in the series.

As announced by Outlander's Twitter account on Dec. 15, Richard Rankin ("The Crimson Field"), another eye candy, has joined the cast and he will portray Roger Wakefield.

Rankin is set to work with other newcomers to the series including Lionel Lingelser, who will portray King Louis XV; Stanley Weber playing Le Comte St. Germain; and Rosie Day as Mary Hawkins.

Roger is Reverend Wakefield's (James Fleet) adopted son in the TV series; but in the books, he has a more important role that affects the entire story, as noted in Entertainment Weekly's report.

Basing on Diana Gabaldon's book "Dragonfly in Amber," Roger will be seen as an adult in the year 1968. Rankin's character develops a close relationship with Brianna, Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie's (Sam Heughan) daughter.

Variety reported that Roger is described to be an "intelligent, kindhearted and charming" lad. He was first introduced as a young boy back in season 1. The little boy has grown up to be a fine young man who now works as a professor at Oxford and is deeply interested in history.

With Roger's involvement with Brianna, fans are now more eager to know who will be picked to play Brianna's part. However, there's still no word on who gets to land the important role.

Season 2 is currently filming and the series is expected to make a return in spring. Starz has recently released its teaser trailer that should whet fans' appetite even more, but still, a lengthier trailer is much anticipated.

It is expected that a new trailer should be dropped in the coming months.

"Outlander" season 2 will return to Starz sometime in 2016. Fans should stay tuned for more updates.
