Nokia C1 Android smartphone news: Live images of new device emerge

Nokia is reportedly planning to make a comeback in the smartphone field but this time, its handsets will be powered by Android.

Earlier, press renders of the so-called Nokia C1 surfaced, which look very much like the live images that were recently spotted in the wild. While it is difficult to tell just by looking at the photos if the Nokia C1 dons a metal or a plastic back, the images do show that the handset has thin bezels on each side that make it sleek-looking. It also appears to have on-screen navigation buttons and its screen-to-body size ratio is rather spot-on.

The display reportedly measures 5 inches and renders 1080p resolution, although it was previously speculated to have a resolution of 720p. On its rear is an 8-megapixel camera while on its front is a 5-megapixel shooter.

The Nokia C1 is said to run Android 6.0 Marshmallow combined with the Finland-based company's own Z Launcher. An Intel Atom processor reportedly powers the device with the help of 2 GB of RAM but there's no word as to the storage options it offers. These specs nonetheless suggest that the Nokia C1 is more of an entry-level midranger than a high-end offering.

It remains to be seen when the handset will be released but it's a good bet that it won't be rolled out this year nor in 2016. According to Phone Arena, Nokia is not allowed to make its own smartphones for two years as part of its deal with Microsoft. Phandroid, meanwhile, reports that the earliest the Nokia C1 will be confirmed is mid-2016. When it does, Nokia is likely to enlist original design manufacturers in manufacturing the device, as well as marketing and distributing it.
