As previously reported, Hello Games announced via the latest released trailer that their game "No Man's Sky" wouldn't release until June 2016. It is heavily speculated that the reason for the delay was to further polish the game for its PS4 and PC release; however, a new report also speculates the delay was due to the PlayStation VR.
According to a report from Movie Pilot, the decision to push back "No Man's Sky" might not have been made by Hello Games and game director Sean Murray but instead may have come directly from Sony executives. It is further explained that the delay may have been made to make the game work for the PlayStation VR.
The PlayStation VR is currently scheduled to release in 2016 and making "No Man's Sky" compatible with the virtual reality headset would reportedly help launch the accessory forward ahead of its competition such as the Valve and HTC Vive headset.
"No Man's Sky" allows players to take their space ship and explore a large open-ended galaxy. Players will be able to discover planets, name them, and mine the planets for resources, which can be used to improve their ship or weapons.
Experiencing this type of open-exploration gameplay with the PlayStation VR would be a very enticing reason to give Sony's virtual reality system a try and may help boost sales for both the game and the VR.
However, Sony has yet to confirm if the launch of their virtual reality device is indeed a portion of the reason why the game is being pushed back from its originally intended late 2015 release. At this point, it should still be considered a rumor.
"No Man's Sky" will officially launch in June 2016 for the PC and PlayStation 4, although there are speculations of a release for Mac or Xbox One sometime down the line if the title is not a PlayStation 4 exclusive.
