NFL star Benjamin Watson, who plays the tight end for the Baltimore Ravens, is mourning the loss of his grandmother, who passed away on Oct. 29.

He shared the sad news on his Facebook page and recalled the pearls of wisdom she shared about God and the Christian faith. "She fought the good fight; she finished the course; she kept the faith. As we mourn her loss tonight I am overwhelmed with a joyful sadness, a comforting pain, and a hopeful despair. Life has not ended for her. On the contrary, it has only just begun. While she may be absent from the body, She is in the presence of our Lord. What a day of rejoicing it must be," he wrote.

Watson admitted that he had dreaded his grandmother's death because she was special to all of them, and he loved her so much. He is thankful that Jesus Christ overcame the grave, so one day they will be reunited in heaven. For now, he has to comfort himself with thoughts that his grandmother has taken her place among the heroes of faith.

The Christian athlete cannot forget the lessons his grandmother taught him as a child. One particular lesson is comprised of just eight words: "What God has for you is for you."

His grandmother used to tell him, "In other words, Benjamin, YOU fight the good fight. YOU finish the course. YOU keep the faith and YOU trust God to give you what He wants and lead you where He desires you to go. No one can alter, add or subtract from God's plans for you. Only He is omniscient and omnipotent. Rest in His sovereignty."

He is now using that lesson to rest in God's sovereignty. "Though she is now absent, her words will remain with me. Her words will forever ring true," he said.
