Nexus 5 2015 release date: Why Google may launch Nexus 5 smartphones

One of the enduring mysteries regarding the Nexus 5 phones set to come out this year is simply why Google even decided to release two of them.

The reasoning behind that decision may have been figured out.

According to BGR's Chris Smith, Google's decision may have ultimately come down to the fact that people simply have different preferences when it comes to the sizes of their handhelds. Smith points to the Nexus 6 as an example. Despite the fact that the device was widely praised and seen as a great product in the eyes of many consumers, some users still said that the size was not working for them.

Considering the size issue with the Nexus 6, Google then had to keep the Nexus 5 from 2013 out there on the market, but that too posed problems to consumers due to its size and price.

Smith speculates that Google's way to address all of these issues is to simply provide consumers with two different devices, those being the two Nexus 5 models they are planning to unveil this year.

As for why Google has decided to choose different makers for the two Nexus 5 devices in LG and Huawei, Smith suggests that this may just be the company's way of maintaining goodwill among their partners, though he leaves room for doubt here.

Google may very well not ever disclose why they decided to  go in this direction.

In related news, the specs of LG's Nexus 5 2015 device have been leaked, according to Tech Times.

The leak suggests that LG's take on the Nexus 5 2015 will be equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 620 processor. It is also said to have 4GB of RAM as well as 64GB of internal storage. The Nexus 5 2015 from LG will also reportedly feature a 13 megapixel rear camera that comes with laser autofocus and it will be paired up with a 4 megapixel front camera.

Google is reportedly planning to launch the Nexus 5 2015 from LG by October.
