Nexus 5 2015 release date and specs: New LG G4 handset to become base model

The clock is ticking for the rumoured release of LG's newest flagship G4, and Google might be looking for the still-to-be-launched product as its newest Nexus model.

Originally slated to be released in March, Korea-based LG decided to move the launch date of the LG G4 in late April, according to South Korean publication The Korea Herald. The timing was delayed so that LG can directly take on the competition, particularly Samsung's Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge.

If Google will renew its partnership with LG to come out with a new Nexus, it seems that the G4 is the clear choice, since the competition factors in the premium aspects of their devices. Aside from speed and design, today's flagship products have the premium look and feel that is favoured by users.

If Google wants to enter into the premium flagship line up, then the candidate for the next Nexus model would indeed be the G4. It is rumoured to also feature a curved display touch panel, 3k resolution, and a 20.7 MP main camera with sensors.

However, in terms of premium look and build, rumor has it that LG will be coming up with its own Note phablet. The hybrid version of the G4 will be encased in a premium metal, harking LG's switch from plastic. According to a report, the G4 Note will be the culmination of the company's drive to provide a premium flagship product. The company is reportedly ramping up its manufacturing processes in order to start mass producing metal cases.

With the new hybrid's time frame, it might not make it for a middle of the year launch. However, LG still has the last quarter of the year to release the G4 Note, and it will be up to Google if the next Nexus will be a straight-up smartphone that would be a worthy competitor to other flagship devices, or an entirely new LG hybrid that is the G4 Note.
