Celebrating her bridal shower was an extremely emotional event for "The Real" co-host Adrienne Bailon. She shared during the event that there are some things that she and her fiancé Israel Houghton would like to do the traditional way, while there are some things they'd like to change.

For one thing, Bailon and Houghton are saving themselves for marriage. But for the bridal shower, which is typically celebrated with just girls, Bailon says she'd prefer to have her husband-to-be with her.

"I always knew if I did a bridal shower I knew I needed it to be co-ed. I can't imagine celebrating my engagement without my fiancé," Bailon told PEOPLE. "I like hanging out with him so why would I want do celebrate without him?"

Bailon and Houghton enjoyed a Parisian-themed shower hosted by the West Hollywood eatery Fig & Olive "We got engaged in Paris, so it made picking a theme easy," shared Bailon, who also revealed that they took an active part in the bridal shower preparation.

"We're very D.I.Y. [do-it-yourself] people and we're hands on, both for our wedding and the shower," said Bailon. "The Eiffel towers were black, but we wanted them rose gold like my engagement ring, so we got spray paint and sat on the deck of our house and spray painted them ourselves. We had frames that I got there and put pictures in it. I did all the table setting myself with Israel."

But as for the games during the party, they left Bailon's "The Real" co-host Jeannie Mai in charge. "Jeannie is a game host for all time," said Bailon. "She had people re-enacting moments in our relationship and then some that were very risque since we're saving ourselves."

The bridal shower truly was a treat, but Bailon said she's certain that their wedding day is going to be even better. "I'm so excited," she gushed. "I can't wait to marry my best friend."

Meanwhile, gospel singer Houghton also talked about their bridal shower on his Instagram account (@ihoughton). He wrote that God favours him because he has been blessed with the love of a very special woman.

"I know I don't deserve to be chosen and loved by God let alone by this life changing woman@adriennebailon — but it's not about deserving or earning or achieving ones love — it's about receiving it," he said. "And I humbly and gladly receive... my heart is so overwhelmed by both the love of God and the love of this amazing woman. My fiancée, my forever... and like He says 'don't worry about your haters, your haters can't do nothing with you.' I receive that, too."
