The New York Knicks have not had the best of showing in the past few seasons but All-Star forward Carmelo Anthony will not be abandoning ship anytime soon, even if they have another subpar season.
In a report by the New York Post, Anthony said last Saturday that he will be staying with the Knicks and shut down the possibility of him looking to be traded if they fail this season.
"No, hell no. For me to get to this point, then decide this is not what it's going to be, I already came this far. It don't even come across my mind at this point," Anthony replied about leaving and getting traded.
The 31-year-old forward had thoughts of being traded and was linked to a number of deals but nothing happened.
Anthony already expressed in the past the patience he has while Knicks president Phil Jackson is trying to rebuild the sunken franchise.
But the eight-time All-Star also spoke how "overwhelming" it was to deal with all the issues that surrounded him in the offseason, including the reported complaining he did when Kristaps Porzingis was drafted and Tim Hardaway Jr. was traded to the Atlanta Hawks and rumors that he wanted to leave the team.
"Then after a while it gets old. You've got to walk around and you've got to hear the people, fans are asking, you've got to deal with that everywhere you go, family, downtown. So things like that starts to get overwhelming at times," Anthony explained.
Since Anthony aims to stay, he already started working with some of his teammates even before training camp, according to previous reports, and is ready to go following a knee injury that ended his 2014–15 season.
He also discussed their botched attempts of landing big names in free agency, but said he is happy with the players the team have acquired.
"I thought they did a great job putting this group of guys together," Anthony said. "I got a group of guys I can believe in that can help me a lot to try to play my game within that system."
The Knicks are coming off a franchise-worst 17–65 record and are hoping to have a better run this season.
